Dr. Li is founder and chairman of Chengwei Capital. Started in 1999, Chengwei was the earliest independent venture capital firm in China. Over the past nearly two decades, Chengwei has backed and helped build many leading companies in Internet, consumer goods, services and specialty manufacturing industries.
Dr. Li has played a leadership role in many activities that contribute to China’s engagement with the world. He has served for many years on the board of directors of China Europe International Business School – now China’s premier institution of higher education in business co-owned by the European Union and Shanghai. He also serves on the board of International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, which organizes the annual Shangri La Dialogue – the largest and highest level gathering of the world’s military and defense leaders. He serves on the boards of Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, the San Francisco Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.
Dr. Li is a frequent contributor to leading global publications on international affairs such as Foreign Affairs, New York Times, and Washington Post. He is a native of Shanghai. He went to University of California, Berkeley and received his BA in economics there, and his MBA from Stanford Business School. He also received his Ph.D in political science from Fudan University.
